Audio Project: Questions

Questions for Story A:

Can you describe the night before I was born?

How were you feeling in the last few days/hours before I was born?

You wake up the morning of my birth, tell me what it was like outside and what were the plans for that week/day before you went into labor.

Tell me about the morning I was born

Who was with you and who did you want around when you went into labor?

Explain to me the process of getting to the hospital and what was going through your head while you were in labor

How long were you in labor for and tell me about how everything felt when it was all over

After I was born, what were your first interactions with the family? Who was there and what were people saying/how were they feeling?

When it came time to decide my name, how did you go about it?

 How did you know my name was my name?

Questions for Story B:

When you woke up the morning of 9/11 what were your plans for the day?

Who were you with the morning of?

How did you first hear that the towers were struck?

Can you describe how you felt when you heard the news?

What were your first thoughts? (i.e What did you think was happening?)

Where did you go and what were your first moves once the news came?

How did the day end? 

Once everything was over and you had to come home, what were your last thoughts when you laid your head on your pillow before you went to bed?

How did NYC feel the next morning? Do you remember the weather and atmosphere?

 The weeks following, what were the first few signs that people were gathering together and trying to rebuild?

Audio Project Interview: Plans

Who are you going to interview?

I’m planning to interview my mother; Nellie.

What story are you going to tell?

There are 2 ideas I have for a story:

• The day I was born
• Her account of 9/11

What is the beginning, middle, and end of the story?

Story A:

Beginning- The day before my mother was expecting to have a c-section because I was 2 weeks late. She told me once before that during that night she prayed to God to have me as soon as possible without having to have the procedure and the next morning she began her labor.

Middle- She was in labor for a short amount of time and she had her sisters by her side. I want her to describe during this part the day and weather and what went on around her.

End- Once I was born she had names planned for me and was deciding between the two but her sister said she loved the name Amanda and so she decided to go with it. I want her to talk about the family seeing me and finally end with my name.

Story B: (I actually haven’t heard her account of 9/11 so this is a basic template for the story)

Beginning- What the weather was like, who she was with, and what plans she had for the day. The last people she interacted with before she heard the news.

Middle- How she heard the news, what she did and where she went the minute she found out. Who she knew inside the building and what her first thoughts were (Exp. Was this a horrible accident? Who did this? Who else was in danger)

End- Directly jumping to the end of the day and the weeks that followed. How the city felt and how she watched the city gather itself.

What larger themes does this story address?

Story A: The themes addressed are very familial and somewhat lighthearted given that my family around my mom and their chaos made for funny moments to tell about later on.

Story B: The themes addressed are fear but also rebuilding. The sort of “silence AFTER the storm” kind of idea that we probably need in a time like this during the pandemic in order to give us hope about rebuilding and returning to normalcy.

Define a Space: Final Project

This is our "Define a Space" project filmed and edited by Amanda Delaney and Josue Coronado. Our focus was on the Hunter smoking section and our intention was to create a contrast between the calm that the dark section of the school provides, compared to the chaos that takes place right beside the section on NYC streets.
