Inspiration/ Storyboard for "Procrastination Bop"

I wanted to share the work and planning that went into just barely a 5-minute long video like "Procrastination Bop". There are many pieces that inspired me and so I've attached them:

First, the end of my video is fully inspired by the end scene for Spider-man: Homecoming, with music and everything. I had decided that Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones was a good match for the procrastination sequence, and I was extremely conflicted on how to end the whole piece. So after recently going on a Marvel streak with my mother, I remembered this end scene with the same song, and the stress and confusion at the end matched perfectly with my piece.

Second, in shots where I'm looking at the time I decided to use a more "P.O.V" type shot where it would be moving like my head would be or my eyes would be adjusting. At first, my idea for this project was completely different, I wanted to create a horror story piece where a student was in their home subject to quarantine due to COVID-19 and her life seems normal until you realize that a person she was speaking to which you assumed was a roommate, friend or family, ends up not being real because in quarantine she is going crazy. Because of this, I drew some shot inspiration from P.O.V's like when a character is stuck in the closet to hide from their killer and you see from their view. Below are some scenes that I looked at to see how I could conduct a shot like this.

Finally, I wanted to frame my shots so I attempted to create an outline for specifically the procrastination montage. I took images of my couch space to make sure the frame followed the Rule of Thirds and I gave a lot of focus on this part of the video because I wanted it to be the highlight. So much so that when I was developing the last half of the video I didn't have a plan. I was entirely stumped on the ending. I knew I wanted to give satisfaction and show character development by allowing my character (AKA. myself) to finish the project. But it wasn't until I was truly filming the video that I thought of sleeping through the due date. Partially because it comes full circle, and partially because it's something I would do.

These are the preparations and planning I did for this project. I hope that my attention to detail comes across.

Final Film 160 Reflection

This semester was the first semester in 2 years I was genuinely excited for every single one of my classes, and in anticipation, the class that brought me the most excitement was my first ever film production class. My decision to become a film major was finalized after years of making pointless Youtube videos, and a childhood of Flipnote animations and home videos paired with the realization that I could turn this skill into a way to help communities, share stories, create awareness, and even get paid. I’ve loved film and media for a long time, and I finally got the opportunity to learn its rules and practices and even put it into work of my own. For the first time, I had a class where we actually took what we learned and did something with it. And although the pandemic cut our time together short, this class still never failed to excite me. Every Wednesday night after 7pm cheering I looked forward to sitting in my room at sunset, learning about film, taking notes, and watching work from different artists. And every Thursday afternoon I looked forward to finishing up a late breakfast and a chapter of my next Harry Potter book, to then turn on my laptop and reflect on the work we were producing. I am extremely grateful for this class, not just for being the first of many to teach me my passion and future career, but also for being a sense of normalcy and piece of my old pre-pandemic life to keep me sane. I can see the improvement in my work just from this one class. I've gone from amateur home videos to film student, and I am beyond excited to grow and develop as a film professional in order to take what I’ve learned and achieved something great. So, thank you.

Audio Project: Questions

Questions for Story A:

Can you describe the night before I was born?
How were you feeling in the last few days/hours before I was born?
You wake up the morning of my birth, tell me what it was like outside and what were the plans for that week/day before you went into labor.
Tell me about the morning I was born
Who was with you and who did you want around when you went into labor?
Explain to me the process of getting to the hospital and what was going through your head while you were in labor
How long were you in labor for and tell me about how everything felt when it was all over
After I was born, what were your first interactions with the family? Who was there and what were people saying/how were they feeling?
When it came time to decide my name, how did you go about it?
How did you know my name was my name?

Questions for Story B:

When you woke up the morning of 9/11 what were your plans for the day?
Who were you with the morning of?
How did you first hear that the towers were struck?
Can you describe how you felt when you heard the news?
What were your first thoughts? (i.e What did you think was happening?)
Where did you go and what were your first moves once the news came?
How did the day end?
Once everything was over and you had to come home, what were your last thoughts when you laid your head on your pillow before you went to bed?
How did NYC feel the next morning? Do you remember the weather and atmosphere?

The weeks following, what were the first few signs that people were gathering together and trying to rebuild?

Audio Project Interview: Plans

Who are you going to interview?
I’m planning to interview my mother; Nellie.
What story are you going to tell?
There are 2 ideas I have for a story:
  • The day I was born
  • Her account of 9/11
What is the beginning, middle, and end of the story?
Story A:
Beginning- The day before my mother was expecting to have a c-section because I was 2 weeks late. She told me once before that during that night she prayed to God to have me as soon as possible without having to have the procedure and the next morning she began her labor.
Middle- She was in labor for a short amount of time and she had her sisters by her side. I want her to describe during this part the day and weather and what went on around her.
End- Once I was born she had names planned for me and was deciding between the two but her sister said she loved the name Amanda and so she decided to go with it. I want her to talk about the family seeing me and finally end with my name.

Story B: (I actually haven’t heard her account of 9/11 so this is a basic template for the story)
Beginning- What the weather was like, who she was with, and what plans she had for the day. The last people she interacted with before she heard the news.
Middle- How she heard the news, what she did and where she went the minute she found out. Who she knew inside the building and what her first thoughts were (Exp. Was this a horrible accident? Who did this? Who else was in danger)
End- Directly jumping to the end of the day and the weeks that followed. How the city felt and how she watched the city gather itself.

What larger themes does this story address?
Story A: The themes addressed are very familial and somewhat lighthearted given that my family around my mom and their chaos made for funny moments to tell about later on.
Story B: The themes addressed are fear but also rebuilding. The sort of “silence AFTER the storm” kind of idea that we probably need in a time like this during the pandemic in order to give us hope about rebuilding and returning to normalcy.

Define a Space: Final Project

This is our "Define a Space" project filmed and edited by Amanda Delaney and Josue Coronado. Our focus was on the Hunter smoking section and our intention was to create a contrast between the calm that the dark section of the school provides, compared to the chaos that takes place right beside the section on NYC streets.

 Best put by Cesare Pavese;

"Idleness makes hours pass slowly and years swiftly. Activity makes the hours short and the years long."

Enjoy,
A
